shame must have triggered my own movie addiction because instead of joining my friend to visit some galleries in chelsea i made my way to union square to use my regal club member free ticket to see hugo. got there in good time and they wouldn't let me use it for a 3D movie so i got a ticket to young adult and pocketed some 3D glasses on my way in. apropos considering the film - snuck upstairs and sat near the front. i wasn't prepared to fall in love and cry sitting there watching the magic happen!!! scorsese TKO whoa this film is marketed crazy - had it been for the marketing alone i never would have seen it unless my brother showed me the scorsese interview on jon stewart and my friend who knows what a stinkpot i am promised i needed to see it.
i just may see it again!!!

Felt the exact same way. Loved the movie and had special meaning for me being a francophile, a Doberman owner/lover as well as a film nut. Loved the 3D, and thought it was great storytelling. Loved all the resonances in the film about how parts of the film connected with other parts or other bits of knowledge, film history, etc.
After reading "Conversations with Scorsese" you can tell that the messages of the film are very much classic Scorsese - the redemptive power of film and the notion that we're all put here to care for others - put it's all done in such an artful and magical way.
